Whether you are the Bride to be, or Mother of Bride or Groom, I like to give you my undivided attention for a least a 1 hour consultation.

When the initial appointment is made I will ask you to bring your outfit in full, including Shoes, Bag, and any Jewellery. All of these elements are very important when deciding the final trims on your Hat or Headpiece. For example if you are intend to wear pearls, I like to bring in some small pearl beading to ‘set-off’ or complement your own accessories. When you are having your Bespoke Headpiece Designed, its all down to the finish and detail.

Often clients arrive without having their other accessories. They sometimes like to wait until the Hat has been designed. In these cases I spend time advising the client on which colours to look for, and which style will suit their outfit.

When designing your Hat or Headpiece I pay careful attention to your skin tone, eye and hair colour. It is important to chose a colour from your outfit that sits well with your facial skin tone. You must also be comfortable on the day so I will discuss how your Headpiece will be worn eg on a Covered Band, a Comb or Elastic.

When we have decided on the most suitable shape for your face, and style to match your outfit, I then work on colour selection. Most Hats and Headpieces have at least 3 layers of the base fabric called Sinamay (the Fabric that I use mostly). I find that layering different Shades and Tones of this Fabric produces a much more subtle and complementary look than ‘dye to match’, which tends to look ‘Flat’, if you are wearing a block of colour. Many fabrics (especially Silks) have a reflective quality due to the threads used and therefore can appear different colours in different light. I like to work with this quality when choosing the Base colour for your Headpiece.

Finally when we have decided on the final design I will give you a copy of the Design Sheet with all details and swatches, in case you still have to find those elusive shoes or earrings!
