 Essential Millinery Foundation Course

 (1hr 20 mins)

Are you thinking about doing a course in Millinery?

Wondering where and how to get started?

You would like to book a course but want a little background knowledge on the fabrics, trimmings, tools and equipment first and of course the Tutor!

This is the workshop that I would have loved to watch before I started my journey into Millinery, over 17 years ago.

I will introduce you to the workroom essentials to get you started, and give you a little insight into a selection of the fabrics and equipment that I use everyday as a Milliner.

I will also share a few top tips about :

  • What millinery fabrics look like/How and what to order
  • Which wire to use/How each wire is used
  • Laying out the fabric/Understanding the bias
  • What are Hat blocks/Preparing and caring for them
  • Basic equipment in every home to help you get started

Which Online Millinery Workshop is suitable for a beginner?

There are so many ways that you can get started with Millinery.

Here are my top 3 suggestions!

  • If you are a complete beginner and would like to learn how to 'Block' using Hat Blocks you can start with the Millinery for Beginners (MFB) range of workshops. Starting with one of the easier fabrics to use, Sinamay, select MFB Blocking with Sinamay.
  • If you want to get started but are not ready to invest in Hat Blocks quite yet, you can use the 'Pattern Technique'.

Select the workshop MFB Using a Pattern to make a headpiece'.

  • Or if sewing is not your forte, don't worry! We have something for everyone here! If you are more of a crafter than a sewer you could start with the Leather Flower and Wire Crown Workshop (you can also order this as part of a bundle of 3 leather workshops)
