With a background and training in Fashion Design (N.C.A.D 1995) combined with the experience of managing a Teaching Millinery Studio (Hat Making) for over 20 years, I have years of knowledge and experience in craft and design to offer to your students.
I am delighted to announce that I have been granted
Artist in Residence position at Heywood Community School for 2022.
Advising students on the construction of garments or accessories /how to maximise on their chosen theme.
A short demonstration on design/layout/balance.
Students learn how to prepare a wreath base using a selection of fabrics. A large selection of fabrics and trimmings will be brought along and students shown how to prepare and attach.
Taking images that you have created/photographed we will collate a Creative Journal, where images, textures and words combine to capture your unique voice.
Students will experiment with different qualities of card and paper of varying textures and colours to create collage style pages, experimenting with layout, balance of colour and texture.
If you like creative writing and/or poetry or even using quotes that inspire you we will blend them in.
We will also design and create the binding book using a variety of fabrics or textured materials.
This project can be viewed as an artistic journey taking elements and influences from your life that are especially significant to you and capturing them on paper, not only on your phone!
Students will enjoy using flowers, bands/combs and other millinery fabrics such as crinoline, veiling, wire etc to design and construct a simple headpiece. This workshop can be designed to include sewing if suitable for your group.
Please contact me for details on prices, group sizes and duration of workshops.
TIP for TY Teachers/Co-ordinators
Some of the Workshops available (such as the Wreath and Card-making will offers students real life skills that can be used in conjunction with mini-company/charity fundraiser programmes).
Having worked in the
TV & film industry
for almost 20 years I was extremely impressed with the
quality & standard of Niav’s online tutorials. I would highly recommend this easy-to-follow tutorial with its chapter-by-chapter approach.
Niav is extremely generous with her wealth of knowledge and experience and delivers it in a very comprehensive & pleasant way.
I look forward to signing up for more classes!
